Small arms fire and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) continue to pose highly dangerous threats to mobile infantry. The need to balance manoeuvrability, speed, weaponry capability and survivability and transportability is hugely important for vehicle platforms used by ground troops in current operations.

Defence IQ’s second annual event, Light Utility Vehicles 2008, is Europe’s only forum specifically addressing the key issues for the LUV class.

This year’s agenda reflects a balance between recent operational feedback, future requirements and technological advances, delivering;

  • Major procurement programmes from across Europe and America including the UK MoD’s Operational Utility Vehicle System (OUVS) and the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) in the US and initiatives in Poland, France and Czech Republic
  • A technology-focus afternoon analyzing cutting-edge developments in light armour, mounted weapons and vehicle performance for platform upgrades and new design considerations to enhance vehicle survivability
  • Operational feedback from conflict areas and how this has shaped requirements for system integration on platforms including the HMMWV, Iveco (Panther) Light Modular Vehicle (LMV), Panhard PVP, Supacat MWMIK, Dzik 3 and Bushmaster
  • Insights into the changing role for the Light Utility Vehicle and a threat analysis of the current operational environment , and the future requirements and challenges facing them
