Saving lives in extreme situations, both natural and man-made, is far more than a job. It’s a vocation for highly skilled and committed people in a wide range of civil, military and parapublic organisations. These people rely on equipment ranging in cost and complexity from aircraft, ships and command and control networks to helmets and harnesses supplied by a specialised industry which must meet the highest quality standards.
Shephard’s Search and Rescue events have become an essential fixture in the SAR community’s annual calendar thanks to their peerless combination of high-quality, thought-provoking presentations and debate, unparalleled networking opportunities, and an exhibition that brings the latest products, technologies and services to a focussed audience.
SAR 2009 will be no exception and will address the major issues facing the community, from contractorisation and service resourcing to renewal of major capital equipment and lessons learned in recent operations in maritime, inland and urban environments, and in both civil and military spheres. It will also address advances in technology and means of ensuring that they beneit those at the sharp end.
