Winnenden, June 2007 – The Swiss Army cooks on Kärcher field kitchens. The contract was awarded at the beginning of 2006 following an international tender, and Kärcher Futuretech GmbH was able to carry out this project, which is one of the biggest in its company history, in record time. A total of 35 Mobile Kitchen Trailers (MK Switzerland) found their way to Switzerland starting from August last year.

Cooking, baking, frying, steaming, browning and thawing – everything is possible at the same time. The kitchen is equipped with two diesel-operated combi-steamers, two pressure cooking kettles, one frying pan and two refrigerators, and it got absolute top marks already in the run-up to the delivery. In the first test run of the serial sample 18 months ago, the top chef Richard Stöckli from Bern appeared very enthusiastic: “Using these kitchens, I would definitely be able to cook a top-class menu with several courses. They are practical and are definitely state of the art”, he revealed to the Swiss BLICK daily paper.

In order to make the serving personnel of the Swiss Army familiar with the new appliances, Kärcher Futuretech Product Manager Michael Wejda carried out training courses on site in Thun/Switzerland last year. “The cooperation with the Swiss Army but also with our Swiss supplier was excellent”, states the experienced Product Manager praising the commitment of the concerned Swiss parties.

The outstanding reputation of the Kärcher field kitchens on the world market, their convincing design in combination with a high product quality and a good cost performance ratio further enhanced the added value in Switzerland and were important reasons for the award of this contract. With its mobile field kitchens, Kärcher Futuretech offers compact systems and solutions which can be used flexibly all over the world. Using these mobile systems, up to 300 persons can be catered for quickly with good and tasty food regardless of the place and time. Current and future demands for food hygiene fully complied with.

Details:

The Mobile Kitchen is used to ensure catering in the case of a missing or incomplete infrastructure.

The equipment of the Mobile Kitchen is designed for the following cooking tasks:

  • Preparation of meals and warm beverages (boiling, steaming, stewing, browning, pressure-cooking, frying, baking and combi-steaming)
  • Cooling of meals and beverages
  • Preparation of warm water for cleaning tasks.

The operators work on a platform. When folded up, this platform serves as a closure and weather protection of the interior during transportation. The walking surfaces of the work area have an anti-slip coating. The platform is equipped with a railing. The standing height on the platform is at least 2.1 m. The working area on the platform can be reached via detachable staircases. The system is delivered with 2 access staircases which can be fixed to the front or rear side of the platform as preferred. For protection against harsh weather conditions, the area between the work platform and the roof can be closed off completely with a weather protection tarpaulin with door elements and blackout windows.

All functions are operative in the required climate zones. For transport, any water in the system must be drained off. For storage, any water in the system must be drained off and the system should be preserved. The admissible temperature range in this case lies between -25 °C and +49 °C.

Kärcher Futuretech plans, develops and produces systems and devices that help to solve the problems of the future. Kärcher Futuretech Systems with their patented, forward-looking problem solutions are in daily use within more than 100 armed forces, civil defence and relief organisations all over the world.
