The GURKHA LAV Supplied In Kit Form, An Industry First The first-of-its-kind in the armored vehicle industry, the kit will offer a cost-effective and job-creation choice for clients while maintaining excellent protection against side load IEDs and armor piercing rounds.

King City, Ontario, Canada, April 23, 2007 – Armet Armored Vehicles Ltd. announces that its latest innovative development in Police and Military Tactical Vehicles, the GURKHA Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV), is available in a unique, one-of-a-kind, kit form. Mounted on the Ford F550 commercial chassis with a GVWR of 19,000lbs (8636kg) and a top speed in excess of 150km/h, the GURKHA is a flexible, highly maneuverable and transportable armored vehicle. With repair service and spare parts being available throughout the worldwide Ford Motor Company network, the GURKHA has the most superior low life cycle costs of any LAV in existence. The GURKHA has a useful and typical SUV configuration, of four side doors and a single rear cargo or crew exit door. The vehicle is armored to NATO Stanag 4569 level 3, which meets with the CEN European B7 ballistic protection level in the walls and ceiling. The armor also provides excellent protection against side load IEDs and armor piercing rounds. The floor is protected against blast and the wheel stations are located away from the crew cabin so that if a wheel detonates a mine, the explosion is vented outwards, minimizing the damage to the cabin. Even with this superior armor protection the payload after armoring is still in excess of 2000kg. Also, NBC overpressure system, turret and various weapon mounting fixtures are available, which further enhances Armet’s undertaking to build an LAV, that is second to none. The Gurkha armouring kit is both innovative and unique in the industry. It is cost-effective and creates jobs by having locals help put together the vehicles in country. The concept is based on the client purchasing a minimum of four, fully assembled Gurkha vehicles. After the initial purchase, additional armouring kits and jigs will be supplied to the client alone with on-site supervisory personnel to train the client’s local workers in the assembly of the GURKHA. An assembly instructional video with ARMET’s quality inspector will ensure that locally manufactured vehicles are armoured in accordance with ARMET’s quality standards.
